The University of Pennsylvania seeks a seasoned and collaborative Associate Vice President for Development for Undergraduate Programs to provide leadership and strategic direction for the University's outreach to undergraduate alumni, parents and individual gift prospects. This is an exciting opportunity for a senior fundraising professional with strong management and frontline fundraising skills to make a substantial contribution to shape the enterprise during the soon-to-be publically announced comprehensive University campaign.Reporting to the Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations, the Associate Vice President for Development for Undergraduate Programs will focus on the integration of the undergraduate and individual gift fundraising programs with the four Undergraduate Schools (Arts and Sciences, Engineering and Applied Science, Nursing, and Wharton) in order to systematically solicit and engage the interest of a larger group of individual donors having potential to contribute significant levels of gift support to the University. The Associate Vice President will lead a staff of over 65 with a budget of approximately $9 million. Specific areas of responsibility include oversight of the following key programs: Major Gifts, The Penn Fund, School and Center Annual Giving, Undergraduate Financial Aid Development, Department of Recreation and Intercollegiate Athletics and Parent Outreach and Development. As a key member of the Vice President's senior management team, the Associate Vice President will participate in the strategic planning process, serve as an active participant and leader in policy making for department-wide initiatives, and represent the Department at various university functions.Major Functions and Responsibilities* Provide long-term vision and direction for a program designed to enhance philanthropic support from individual donors. Ensure appropriate allocation of staff and resources, and mobilize influential trustees and alumni to energize fundraising efforts.* Provide strategic management, coordination and oversight of the Undergraduate Program prospect planning process across the University. Partner with school and center development directors to provide tactical support and assistance in identifying and exploring ways to enhance individual gift fundraising efforts in their respective areas.* Encourage collaboration and create a strong service orientation between and among centrally-based staff and schools and units to ensure optimum gifts from donors.* Play a senior role in realizing the fundraising priorities of the upcoming campaign. Work closely with the Vice President for Development & Alumni Relations, the senior management team, and staff to develop strategies, approaches, and programs designed to ensure the success in meeting the goals of the campaign. * Manage a personal portfolio of prospects at the $1,000,000 and higher levels.* Evaluate and monitor effectiveness of programmatic activities across the Undergraduate Program including Major Gifts unit, The Penn Fund, School & Center Annual Giving Support, Student and Young Alumni Program, Parents Outreach and Development Program, Undergraduate Financial Aid Development fundraising, and the fundraising activities of the Department of Recreation and Intercollegiate Athletics.* Serve as an active participant and leader in planning, strategizing and policy making for University-wide initiatives and in support of fundraising and alumni relations activities overall.* Build strong personal and professional relationships with alumni, friends and throughout the university community, and serve as a resource, advocate, and spokesperson for development programs at Penn.* Maintain an in-depth knowledge of the University's fundraising priorities, signature programs, key faculty, and notable alumni. The ideal candidate for this position will possess:* Strong academic credentials with a preference for a graduate degree in a relevant discipline and an academic orientation that will be credible to donors and alumni.* At least ten years of progressively responsible development experience in higher education, particularly during a capital campaign, including significant experience in soliciting major gifts from prominent individuals, and successful fundraising interactions overall with major gift donors. * Demonstrated success in developing and managing fundraising programs in a performance-based culture and an in-depth understanding of advancement and development programs in a large university. * Demonstrated ability to provide management oversight, leadership and strategic direction. Ability to develop trust and strong collaborative working relationships.* Demonstrated ability to inspire and motivate a team of seasoned professionals, establish objectives and set performance standards, and achieve program goals and objectives.* Strong communication skills, both oral and written. Must be able to communicate effectively to a large/diverse audience, including senior administration, trustees, prominent officials, donors, prospects, colleagues, staff, faculty and others across the University.* Superior interpersonal skills and a capacity to engage, inspire, and persuade faculty, University administrators, officers, volunteers, donors, prospects and staff, both within the University and beyond.
